VoiceOver & Touch Bible Loaded

VoiceOver is a feature for the visually impaired. Please note VoiceOver requires an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch (3rd Gen), or iPad. Features below require iOS 4 and Touch Bible Loaded.

For more details on VoiceOver, visit the VoiceOver pages at Apple.com:

iPad VoiceOver
iPhone 3GS / iPhone 4 VoiceOver

VoiceOver & Touch Bible Loaded

VoiceOver is specially designed to allow the visually impaired the ability to "feel" their way around the screen by announcing what is under the finger as it passes over items.

VoiceOver + Triple-Click Home & Touch Bible Loaded

VoiceOver isn't meant to be used by individuals with normal vision, however it can be temporarily used on by anyone (with a supported device) who wishes to have the Bible read aloud.

If you have Triple-Click Home enabled for VoiceOver, you can leave VoiceOver off until you are ready for it to read the Bible.

Triple-Click Home can easily be enabled by pressing the Home Button three times (Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home > select "Toggle VoiceOver"). Also, you must enable Touch Bible's 'auto-read' feature in the Settings App, under the Touch Bible Loaded preferences. Turn "Read Entire Chapter" ON.

The video above will guide you through these steps.

Tips VoiceOver & Touch Bible Loaded
  • All primary app buttons are located at the top of the screen.
  • All features have "Hide" button at the top, and take up the full screen on the iPhone/iPod Touch except for the Notes Window and Dial-a-Verse. Other windows have the "Hide" buttons at he bottom of the window, but not at the bottom of the screen.
  • The Notes Windows is not full screen and allow Bible text to be viewed at the bottom of the window.
  • Use "Keyword Search" to look up scripture by typing out a passage, such as "John 3:1" (that is J O H N space 3 colon 1).
  • Chapter and Verse numbers are required when searching for scripture in the keyword search.
  • Passages can be abbreviated, below is a chart of allowed abbreviations.
  • Under standard usage, the "Look-up" button is used to select passages by opening the Dial-a-Verse feature.
  • Dial-a-Verse uses pickers. With VoiceOver, pickers on iPhone lag, meaning the item spoken isn't always the item selected. It may be easier to avoid Dial-a-Verse and use the Keyword Search instead.
  • If you still prefer Dial-a-Verse, open the "Options" button, and set "Auto Dial-a-Verse" to OFF
  • When navigating the Dial-a-Verse pickers, tap the screen two times with a short pause in between to ensure you have selected the right item.
  • Above the Pickers are "Done" and "Apply" buttons. Use those to open the selected passage.
  • Dial-a-Verse resides at the bottom of the screen when open. The "Done" button hides Dial-a-Verse.

How much space does Touch Bible™ require?

The space needed to run Touch Bible™ depends on the version and how you use it. For example, if you keep note in Touch Bible™, you'll need more space.

iPhone®, iPod Touch®, iPad®

Touch Bible™ KJV requires about 40MB when installed. Every other version of Touch Bible™ requires less than 200MB depending on the number of translations and study content. Touch Bible™ is larger than other bible apps because it comes pre-loaded with one or more Bibles and thousands of study notes, but the iOS devices have plenty of room!

Android™ Touch Bible™

Touch Bible Free™ requires 15MB of built-in memory and Touch Bible NET™ requires 10MB. Currently, Touch Bible™ does not store it's bibles on the SDcard because the pre-loaded bibles cannot be moved and deleted.

How do I upgrade Touch Bible™?

Whenever there is an update, your device will alert you. Updates are always free for the version of Touch Bible you own as long as you go through the proper channels to get an update.

Touch Bible™ isn't working. What do I do?

Apple® Devices

If Touch Bible isn't behaving as expected, often the best thing to do is to restart your device. If that doesn't help, it you may need to reinstall Touch Bible.

Try the following troubleshooting steps form Apple for your iPhone® or iPod Touch® to resolve an issue:

Android™ Devices

Sometimes bugs with installation process may cause the device to reboot, which can be initially after an install or if too many apps are open. Other times, Touch Bible™ may need to be reinstalled due to an unknown error. Fixing these errors involves deleting the app and re-downloading it from your "My Downloads" section of the Market Place. The following articles explain the process:

Removing an app

Retrieving previously purchased apps

Touch Bible can require a lot of memory to run. If you use widgets on your home screen, or have other apps open, Touch Bible may run low on memory because it has to share it with these "background tasks". Try running fewer widgets and allowing for 20% of your memory for free space. This could help make your Android Phone run much smoother over all, and improve your reading experience in Touch Bible™.

NOTE: Please report any issues by using the contact form. Deleting apps will result in data loss (bookmarks may be lost).

I lost my device, do I have to buy Touch Bible™ again?

It can be a very bad day if you no longer have your device due to loss, theft or damage. The good news is that your software is probably safe with your account, or backed up on your computer... so you can get it back in most cases! Read these articles for more information:

Why are there free versions of Touch Bible™?

The Bible is a wonderful book that everyone should own, yet so many people do not own one. Sometimes the cost of a Bible will keep a person from owning one, but often that isn't the only reason.

A device like the iPhone® makes reading the Bible easier and has many advantages. It is always with you. It isn't a book, so it is easy to use no matter where you are. Touch Bible™ gives users such easy access to scripture, that there is less to worry about when it comes to looking up verses. The search feature and additional study material help give some insight to the context.

Free Touch Bible™ means more people can own it and benefit from it by reading the Bible more often. Knowing that the Bible is being read more often because of Touch Bible™ is a blessing that money cannot buy! Therefore, no price is put on many versions Touch Bible™.
